Here's one - The Alumni Chat List appears via e-mail
and by itself on the web at
http://w3.antioch.edu/pipermail/alumni-chat/2007-July/date.html

When I post something on the Antioch forum at Antiochians.org,
subscribers to the listserv receive it as well (and it appears on the
chat site).  Hence 'bridge'.

But when I go back and EDIT one of my posts at Antiochians.org,
which is an incredibly useful feature, the new text doesn't appear
on the listserv or the chat site.  Only on Antiochians.org.

So two questions:

1.  What's up with that?
2.  Are there people out there who only read the listerv?

Thanks

I believe that editing mailbridged posts in these forums was never meant to resend an email. The logic behind it makes sence since you can't edit a sent email message sitting in someone eles's inbox. Hence the edit is only for the copy of the post on these forums.

The same logic applies to the mailman archive (what you called "chat site").  That's an archive and it wouldn't be truthful to its name if it could be edited.

I personally think that the mailbridged forums should not allow for editing at all, since it is a bit of an "archive." However, I also think that there's no real need to have any forum functionality to mailing list messages in the first place save for reading and replying. It should really be thought of as a feed that one can reply to.

If you have corrections then you should reply to that post and quote it.

It's rumored that a small group of nocturnal coders are working tirelessly at tearing apart the fabric of the whatness of all these systems and hopefully a more functional and user-friendly system will be in place soon.
