okay, I'm testing out what looks to be a very promising mod for combining the existing mailing lists and the forum.

I think I just have to get some mail server settings right...

if anyone can/wants to help with testing/figuring this out, please drop me a line Smiley

Great work with all of this, alicson. Thank you. It'll be great to have a central place and I definitely prefer forums to mailing lists any day.

A couple of quick suggestions if you're able:

1. Atom or RSS feeds for these forums would be great.

2. Securing the User List would be nice too.

3. Polls would be useful I think.

4. Post by email would be nice too, though tricky.

Thanks again.

Update on the mailing list integration.  Matt Baya and I have been working on this.  It works.  We'll be bridging more of the mailing lists to forums as we can.. each one takes a while because Matt has to import the archives and when we do the initial import there are inevitable hiccups like duplicates or split threads which need to be manually addressed...
My point is, we're on it and it's working :)

Erik, your suggestions are much appreciated and I agree with the RSS feeds suggestions, I'll look into user list securing, please explain how you'd like to see polls used, and post by email.. I'll look at... though probably not in the next few days.  Bug me about it a bit later if it falls too much on the back burner and you're interested in seeing happen.
(you do know you can subscribe to a topic, right? it's not post by email, but it is receive-post by email :) )

If anyone would like to volunteer some time/effort to help with forum moderation/maintenance, please contact me!

Goodnight, meanwhile..

Thanks for the quick reply.

Regarding polls:
A user should, when posting a new topic, be able to attach a Poll question such as: Where should the money be spent? they would then provide answers which would be selected via radial buttons: A) To pay the BoT's bribe or B) To Hire a Lawyer to Sue the BoT or C) another option...

PHPBB has this feature and here's one for PunBB though I've never used it: http://www.punres.org/files.php?pid=60

Regarding Post by Email:
Rethinking this, it's not necessary and would be tough to implement securely, so I withdraw this request Smiley

Regarding volunteering:
If there's a list of coding you all need done and want to set up SVN or something similar I'll gladly contribute when I have the time. I'm pretty handy with PHP, AJAX and Python. Time is the biggest problem though.

RSS feeds -- Matt located them: http://antiochians.org/forum/extern.php?action=active&type=rss

Pending: getting a link up on the site
and checking into having individual category and forum feeds.

You can do feeds for individual forums by just adding on  &fid=XX where XX is the forum ID

For example, the 'saveantioch' feed is: http://antiochians.org/forum/extern.php?action=active&type=rss?fid=96

However, this feed is just post titles, none of the content. Perhaps one of the plugins does this better and auto adds links in the appropriate places?
